my grandmother has a new home
    it's called "Edenvale Village"
although it's really her ghost town

for everything reduced by one late
last year, when the one who'd been
her world for 65 blissful years, left

sure, there's lawn bowls & old movie nights
    & singalongs & bus excursions - but
she sits alone at the window in her room

    quietly looking out, forgetting herself
forgetting us - waiting for the moment
    when one becomes two again

This is so beautifully haunting and sad. The imagery clear and precise. Like watching t.v. or old memories of my aunt sitting in her window. Thanks for the memories.

Am recently ex-Sydney (still work there) after 27 years, and am a Wollongongian again. And you're in Melbourne, I presume?

This is not an advertisement for the Golden years. They are more accurately the "Olden" years with "G" for "Good Measure." When you are young, you have a memory of grandma or auntie at the window. When you are older, you see yourself at the window. Ouch! Very lovely write. Thanks for sharing, garethroi

I'm with you on that one. Aging is not for sissys - I saw that on a bumper sticker and liked it. I really like your poem.
