    Precious heart

I passed your house this evening on my walk home to my place.
I'm haunted by the vision of your sweet and charming face.
You left me, Love, defenceless o'er against the whims of Fate.
O Christine! you're to me like Heaven's gate,
    Heaven's gate.
O Christine! you're to me like Heaven's gate.

I'm sitting by the seaside in the early summer night.
Bewitched again I am now by your countenance so bright.
Pale-red's the sky in distant West, and there's my memory
of the sweet hope you left for you and me,
    you and me,
of the sweet hope you left for you and me.

And calm's the sea – Mt. Esja reigns in high serenity,
your mountain blue providing you protective company.
I sense your soul so close to me – still, we were meant to part!
My desire was just you, my precious heart,
    precious heart!
My desire was just you, my precious heart.

I lift mine eyes again up to the clear, celestial hights.
My mind's with God and you for whom I'm praying through the nights.
I hope you'll be my compagnon in life, 'cause all I know
is that our love will ever live and grow,
    live and grow,
is that our love will ever live and grow.

Written to the tune of 'God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen' (here sung by the Bach Choir: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FlfHyb397VY ). My love poem, submitted herewith to the RhymeZone 2016 Poetry Contest, might, however, be sung somewhat slower. Author: © Jón Valur Jensson, Reykjavik, Iceland ( = Chanter).

The French word compagnon may at will, or if necessary, be replaced by fiancée.
Notice that in IV,4 "our" is sung as one syllable, and in IV,6 as two!
Likewise, in III,4 "sire" in "desire" is sung as one syllable, and in IV,6 as two!
So, too, with "sweet" in II,4 and 6, and "ine" in Christine in I,4 and 6. ––Ciao!
