  • Night Letter

Our lips were furtive fire looking for sustenance
Quiet rivers that met and overflowed alluvial

Auriferous chimerical our kisses built a bridge
A momentary asylum and thus of infinite splendor

A gateway so delicate perhaps only a spider would
Venture across with its eight-legged trepidation

I turn over these precious stones of memory often
Under breath's pavilion I want to taste you again

'alluvial auriferous chimerical' is a poem in itself; the last line is opulent in its sensuality

Grant, you know me too well! You are most right - I actually smiled to myself when I put "alluvial auriferous and chimerical" together.

Hi, Tanner, I am most taken with the first two and last two lines.

Tanner this is stunning. Luscious, lingering, longing...many likes are insufficient.

RLW, Many thanks for your comments. I think I actually read somewhere obscure that a "Night Letter" was actually a letter that was written at night and delivered
the next morning/day...this poem took a bit of work, after I got thru the first 4 lines, however, I knew where the vehicle was headed!
