We're restless, creative expression has left us.
    They've hexed us, vexed us,
promised us salvation while they inject us
    with prejudice and hate -
evolved us into slaves with invisible chains.
    Let's make no mistake,
these shackles are real but they're rusty.
Trust me, we can break ourselves free.
An opportunity seized, is all that we need.
We can feed greed, or we can take heed and learn.
We can wake up or we can watch the world burn.

How did we buy into the fallacy that anyone is better or lesser than us?
Get busy affecting change, or get busy reducing us all to dust.
By nature we are players, but we're playing a dying game.
    I want to LIVE, not toil inside the flames;
but if we don't change the game, we'll ALL burn the same.

There's nothing more terrifying than an idealist who loses hope.
It is in these times that all the bombs explode.
Explosions and eroding emotions, we're broken
institutions built on confusions of delusions we're lost
like the true meaning of the word revolution; the cost
is too high, we lost sight, closed our eyes.
We gave our minds without thought to price or time.
Time: the true money - forget dollars and cents.
Currency is metaphor for time-in-life spent.

Forced to give up my time, forced to give up my life,
I cannot abide this system but have lost the will to fight.
But if you could all stand with me and play a different song
we could rectify this madness, and singing, ring in a new dawn.

"...currency is metaphor for time-in-life spent." My friend and I were just discussing this the other day. We were shopping for our new year gathering and kept trying to describe the costs in terms of our time instead of dollar amounts. For instance, the bottle of champagne I purchased cost me 35 minutes of my life. It's a fun and thought-provoking game, I recommend that people try it - it's interesting to see how it changes your perspective about the things you buy. Thanks for sharing! It is stimulating, conversation-starting content.

This reads like a spoken word poetry piece, or even a hip-hop track. I REALLY enjoyed it. This one is probably my favorite.

Jezebel: It was indeed written as a spoken word piece, although at first this was unintentional. The syllables don't quite add up evenly enough to be a hip-hop piece, but I have played around with trying to fit it into song-form. Ultimately, it has sounded best as spoken word, so far. .
