Upon the fireplace mantel
Sits a picture of my mother and me
Next to it sits her urn
With the ashes I could not set free

I remember when I was young
She taught me right from wrong
Some lessons I learned the hard way
But I’ll remember them all my lifelong

Whenever I had a problem
She always tried to lend a hand
Even if she didn’t know the solution
She’d still try and help me understand

We’d work to solve it together
Till the answer we would find
The way God intended mothers to be
When their image he designed

To me she was an angel
Sent from heaven above
God sent her just for me
Full of kindness, compassion and love

Whenever life rolls a storm my way
And the lighting suddenly flashes
I look to the mantle and know I’ll be safe
Because there’s still an angel in the ashes
