  • I Rise to Wake the Dawn

I rise to wake the dawn,
I greet the morning with a smile,
I breathe the sky and touch the sun,
And laugh just like a child.

I hold the hand of destiny,
As I walk the sands of time,
I feel the distant wind of change,
    Follow from behind.

    I speak a silent thankfulness,
    To live another day,
My heart is so consumed with love,
    My body longs to stay.

My spirit sings from deep within,
    My soul begins to soar,
I reach out for the great unknown,
    To only thirst for more.

I near the brink of endlessness,
    But know I must return,
My purpose is not yet fulfilled,
I still have much to learn.

I grasp my heart and hold on tight,
As tears roll down my cheek,
I feel the faith of God Himself,
I pray but do not speak.

I rise to wake the dawn,
I greet the morning with a smile,
I breathe the sky and touch the sun,
And laugh just like a child...

Nicely done. It certainly speaks to understanding your place in the here and now. A melodic, flowing rhythm makes this read wonderfully. Good luck in the contest.

I feel refreshed. Almost as if I'm in the poet's shoes, doing what the poem tells me. Poetry has a strong effect on people, you know?

Shows a definite grasp on constructing euphonious meter and rhyme scheme. However, perhaps slightly kitsch in total execution. Every stanza is, in and of itself melodic and euphonious. Despite this, at the end of the poem I struggle to grasp a meaning or message that's consistent throughout the entirety of the piece.

An ode to the beauty of life yet still acknowledging the presence of the unknown. Very well written!
