When I Became A Man

When I became a Man,
I hated it.
Because
When I became a Man
I lost everyone I ever loved,
then I lost my mind.
I had to make sure those boyish things were done...
When I became a Man,
I realized my, 'friends,'
were only toying with my mind.
They said they had my back but they meant,
if they had the time,
if it was convienent.
I realized everybody was either dead
or only cared about themselves,
they never cared what they said
if they thought they'd gain wealth.
When I became a Man,
I knew that most my life
would be spent alone.
Even though my father loves me
I knew that most my life,
I must stay far from home.
When I became a Man,
I stopped sleeping,
because I realized if I never put the work in
I would spend my life dreaming.
When I became a Man,
I realized the only one that would help me
come up off these
streets and finally
succeed
was the one I've come to know as me.
When I became a Man
I started making people call me by my name
I reclaimed
my pride when I became
A Man
I finally learned how to stand
the sight of the man
In the mirror and
I came to understand
that to make it in this world
I must become a man.
