Klee's Windows on Tomorrow: A Quartet

A great round head
without ears
seems filled with secret knowledge,
but the eyes seem a little insane.

An orange moon
floats like a balloon
above a city awash with riot and color.
Or is it the sun?

A pyramid composed
of minuscule stones
could possibly reveal tomorrow’s secrets,
but the doorway is walled up.

Squiggles cover the canvas.
Figures and shapes leap to the foreground,
but I haven’t the faintest clue
what they are trying to tell me.
