  • Things Far Stranger

    Surely there have been stranger things,
    Than to scale the stairs of high towers;
    To miss the chance of being kings,
    For a secluded tryst of few hours.

    Undoubtedly there have been stranger things,
    Than to float in emerald oceans for days;
    To see the undersides of strong bird wings,
    Through a rose-tinted, love-filled gaze.

    Certainly there have been stranger things,
    Than to ignore the currency of fools;
    To brush aside the offer of golden rings,
    For a look upon star-lit jewels.

    There have been far stranger things,
    Than to climb upon broken roofs;
    To see the that which imagination brings,
    Without any logical proofs.

    There have been far stranger things,
    Than to lay in the newly grown grass;
    To hear the sounds a bird sings,
    As familiar seasons come to pass.

    To be a small girl in love with the sky,
    The moon, the seas, and the stars;
    To learn veiled truths of Helios' golden eye,
    Of victories, loss, and wars.

    To be a girl taught by the winds and the tides,
    Lessons gained from Father Time;
    To the reeds' sway of her short strides,
    Of footsteps on adventures sublime.

    To be such a girl with her head in the clouds,
    There is little room left for greed;
    Hatred, envy, sorrow, and malice are cowed,
    Things of which humans have no need.

    To see people as they are,
    While keeping judgement low;
    To acknowledge each and every scar,
    While encouraging others to grow.

    To accept the impending danger,
    Of a sensation much more freeing;
    There have been things far stranger,
    Than to be a human being.
