  • Not A Child Anymore

I watch them through the window
They aren't much younger than I am
In fact, they're a bit older
    But they're still children
    Not knowing of heartbreak
    They're filled with hope
    Mine have shattered years ago
For when you really see the world
    Your perspective on everything changes
And your rose tinted glasses fall from your face
    You see how it is
Instead of how it should be
And you know that every gentle caress
May be followed soon afterwards with a hard slap
People say I'm too young to be so cynical
I tell them I'd rather be cynical than stupid
    They just shake their heads
Disappointed that someone of only 14 years
Sees the world for how it is
And understands that it will never change
