    Poetry Prize Rules!

Announcing the 2014-2015 RhymeZone Poetry Prize

    This year's theme: "Understanding"

RhymeZone will make unconditional grants totalling $5,000 to 10 authors of thought-provoking poetry in the United States or Canada.
The submission deadline is Sunday, February 1, 2015 and winners will be announced on Sunday, March 1, 2015.

To enter, compose an original poem related to theme of "Understanding" and share it with the RhymeZone community by posting a new topic to this forum.

Poems will be judged on the basis of how thought-provoking, well-crafted, and original they are. All entries must be original poems that have not won any award previously. Ten winners will be selected from the bunch by the beginning of March 2015, with each winner awarded $500 USD.

Why a poetry prize? It's our way of saying thank you to the poetry community which has been so supportive of RhymeZone over the years — and also a way to encourage the writing of more great verse. And we also just think it will be fun.

For detailed rules and guidelines, please see http://www.rhymezone.com/contest/

People please do not post your poems as replies to this rules topic.
    Back out to the "
RhymeZone 2014-2015 Poetry Prize entries" forum and click on the blue box that says "+New Topic" and create a new topic with the topic title being your poem title. Thanks.

    Outside Looking In
    by Robert W. Curl

Time for me to leave. Bad decisions, worse mistakes. It all led me to this dark place.

No longer having a purpose has erased the layers of happiness and my friends so now all that remains is a blank surface.

The layers of laughter and fun, friends and my kin that protected the black and nasty thoughts and actions I buried deep from within with keyless locks to protect me and my heart from letting anyone back in.

All that remains is a cold heart that nobody dares to try and touch; it became colder than ice, without life like it's hypothermic, & scarier to touch than diseased hypodermic needles and blood.

I created my world now I must pay for thy own sins. I pushed away family and best friends, and yes I let my addiction win. My last words to you that's right in the situation and seat I was in; imagine knocking on your best friends door, but even though you've locked eyes he doesn't let you in. Then after 20 calls you still get sent straight to voicemail over and over again.

For that I don't and won't ever place any blame on them. I'm too happy to see their family's growing even if I'm just on the outside looking in.

Huh? Why would you think that the judges of this contest--who may not even be reading this thread--would be swayed by someone simply thank you to the site for the sponsoring the contest?

To win, is it required to post our city, state. I'm not entirely comfortable doing so for privacy reasons. Although if required to win, I'll edit my poems and include it. (The repairs required for my truck outweigh my paranoia of my past lol)

I would like to second A.M. Moon's suggestion that the number of entries per person be limited. Right now there are people flooding the forum with poems instead of, apparently, selecting their best work and entering it. Three poems would be an acceptable limit IMO. Thoughts from anyone else?

No. Please read the post that started this thread. You need to start a new topic of your own with just this poem.
