I just wanted to say thanks to RhymeZone for sponsoring this contest. I discovered this site a couple of years back when I was writing some satirical light verse, was away from my desk at home (where I have a physical rhyming dictionary), and Googled "rhyming dictionary". I have been using it ever since.

    Understanding

    Understanding is easy you see
All you have to do is listen to me
You will see how much fun it can be
When you are listening to me
I hope I’m not too demanding
All I want is a little understanding
No troubles or worries will be our landing
As long as we have an understanding.

    Why isn’t anyone Understanding?

    Why isn’t anyone understanding me?
Is it because my hurt they cannot see.
    I’m down on bended knees
    Somebody help me please
    If no one is understanding
Then in jail I’ll be landing
I had to have food to eat
    There was not just me
I need enough to feed me plus three
They didn’t ask to be here
So I’ve got to make a way
But out of jail I must stay
What will be the price I must pay?
I don’t have fame or riches
I try not to dig ditches
Because in this life you never know
    Where you may go
    Is anyone understanding me?
    I want to know.

    What I need is Understanding

Can you hear my plea understanding is what I need?
I don’t want your money, no
Put yourself in my place, then plead the case
It’s not the same look on their faces
When it’s white cases that’s being judged by racist
It really does matter if you are black or if you are white
Black people have always had to fight
Just to be able to get what was right.
Some had to steal their freedom through the night
    In the Underground Railroad
Thanks to those who paved the way
To allow me to get where I am today.
    Some were beaten,
Some were attacked by high pressure water hose
Some were beaten so bad, some had bloody noses
Some were just out right murdered, some shot, and some hung.
Some marched for freedom with Dr. Martin Luke King.
Some people voted for the first African American President
But he still has white descent,
    His father was African
    His mother was white
I guess that Makes Barack Obama alright
The guy has never done nothing to me
He’s pretty cool from what I can see
But a lot of people hate him
    Cause he looks like me.

What happens to submissions after the contest? Will they disappear from cyberspace? If not, will they be accessible to all?

On another note, in future years (if this competition is repeated) the administrators might consider limiting entries to 3 or 5 poems each. This way, everyone is presenting their very best work, the cream of their individual crops, as it were. And that would preclude those posting dozens or even (it may turn out) hundreds of poems. Just a thought.

I too posted a poem (just two days ago) that has now disappeared, sunk below the horizon of the of the 20-pages-max-visible. Has anyone in administration replied to this question yet? --whether these poems will still be considered as entries at judging time. Perhaps someone has responded, but it disappeared too, haha!

    • An applicant may submit multiple entries throughout the contest period, as long as (1) each entry is an original work that meets all of the submission guidelines, (2) the applicant uses the same email address for each entry. Judges reserve the right to limit prizes to at most one prize per individual applicant.

The submissions are still visible by viewing a person's profile. I can see that my contest entries are still in the system by clicking on my username on THIS post, but if they aren't viewable as a forum topic are they still considered as entries?

Here's a link to the contest rules:
    http://www.rhymezone.com/contest/#rules

    Regarding your question, it says...

"A parent or legal guardian above the age of 18 may enter on behalf of a child under 18."
