    Reverse Rain

I stand up. My father’s frown
    hardens to a smile

    while mascara runs
up my cheeks and dries black.

    You take the taxi driver’s
    pesos to ship me out

    and I stop screaming
    when you shove it in.

    My shoulders bounce
off the bed into your palms

before the ocean spits our bodies
    back towards the moon

    and my skirt glides
up my ankles to clip my hips

I let go of your hand
    before a liquid crowd

sips me in while alcohol squirts
off my teeth into an empty bottle,

waiting for a man to ignore
my ID and let me out.

    Would you
    In my place
    In my place
    In my place
    In my place
    In my place
    In my place
    In my place
    In my place
    In my place
    In my place
    In my place
    In my place
    In my place
    In my place
    In my place
