Slowing climbing the dark and creaking stairs
I feel my heart exploding in my chest
My breathing labored, saying silent prayers
Hoping it’s a dream, not unwanted guests


I stand absolutely frozen in place
Afraid to exhale and my breathing heard
the perpetrators standing face to face
On the floor a glistening knife and cord
