This is a beautiful poem, Alexandra telling of a forbidden love. It reminded me of this poem I read a while back on a similar theme which I think you'd like:
Goodbye
I don't know what bound me to you
As side by side, we walked.
All I know is that I heard you
As in silence, you talked.
And though I saw little of you
My eyes could read you plain.
But as I drew away from you
Did your heart feel my pain
As I whispered goodbye to you?
And did you hear me say
That though you're gone, the thought of you
With me will always stay?

Lovely as always, While reading this all I can resolve to do is smile and remember the thrills of forbidden love. This is in my opinion the single best thing I've read to date. Well Done!!

Sounds like a "forbidden romance" of younger days, still in your trademark style, AtL!

Very expressive
The shadow of untouchable desire So very near, yet still too far

Your Shadow Almost Touched Me
Your shadow almost touched me
The world you now live in so far from mine
Try as I may, the hurdle is too great
Depth of despair difficult to define
wreaks havoc on my heart to acclimate
Oh If only I could go back in time
I would love you as no other ever could
We would break out of this world’s paradigm
Crush barriers that are misunderstood
I felt your shadow almost touch my hand
very close yet so far out of my reach
Bodies moved and swayed, sinking in quicksand
Impassable rift, unable to breach
