The hustle the bustle
Merely a muscle memory
Shoppers return but manners hold sway
Not driving in droves
Crowds do not reassemble
Town centre does resemble
A shadow of former self
Its pre covid glory lost
When shopping went viral
Shop keepers became shop losers
Foot fall fell as people voted with their feet
Balances gone small business smaller
And kicked whilst they are down
Windows boarded and tills empty
Shops that remain without the jingle jangle
Change subject to change
In the era of the card tap
The throng would be wrong
As we queue in separation
Personal space respected
By the masked strangers
Fore street now before street
With a past but what future?
