In your absence
In your absence I’ve learned to sleep alone
Invent new ways to keep warm through the night
Like a ghost I haunt the rooms in our home
Getting out of bed is another fight
Without you life is simply not the same
I can still smell your lingering cologne
My purpose is like a flickering flame
The loss I feel is clear down to the bone
I’ve been told the deep pain lessens with time
But romantic movies still make me cry
We were married what now seems a lifetime
I always thought I’d be the first to die
Now I try to live one day at a time
Life’s peaks and valleys I’m learning to climb
