    My Mother’s Tears

Everyday she waits for my father’s return
Struggling to get up from her rocking chair
She walks to the front window with concern
Wondering where he is, she stands there and stares

A few minutes later, she asks again
Where is your father, why isn’t he home ?
Eyes glazed, I see her light fading within
back in time, her mind usually roams

Daddy died more than seven months ago
Anxious every night she still waits within
It will be the same story tomorrow
Habit formed over 60 years with him

When I remind her, her eyes well up with tears
How could he be gone for such a long time
What happened to all those family years
How can the mind erase a full Lifetime

Oh my...how beautifully sad this is...a story played out too often and yet, I feel such thankfulness that she has you there, to listen, to remember, to hug.

    Beautiful emotion on display here.
