    Stand back(Lockdown Lovesong)

I am the poet writing songs of devotion
I am the poet rhyming words of emotion
To win your love that is the notion
Writing a ballad as big as the ocean

But as I write it, it becomes a polemic
A viral ambush, that became a pandemic
    Romance cancelled, defeat systemic
Fight to saves lives its not academic

That must be why you say stand back to me
Social distance, 2 metres we should be
Wear a mask, cover your face you say
Keep your hands clean and wash it away

My words still continue, as I try to impress
I want to hug you, yes embrace you I confess
Holding your hand would still be a success,
But unseen Corona makes it all less

That must be why you say stand back to me
Social distance, 2 metres we should be
Wear a mask, cover your face you say
Keep your hands clean and wash it away

Educated and though I know how to write
Covert covid a new and invisible blight.
Keep all safe do not increase their plight
Shield the vulnerable from this fight

That must be why you say stand back to me
Social distance, 2 metres we should be
Wear a mask, cover your face you say
Keep your hands clean and wash it away

I want to kiss your lips and to make some romance
Under the same roof but no there is not a chance
We zoom but still can’t make an advance
    Fingers entwined could only enhance

That must be why you say stand back to me
Social distance, 2 metres we should be
Wear a mask, cover your face you say
Keep your hands clean and wash it away

That must be why you say stand back to me
Until one day a new vaccine is ready
When normal lifes returned to stay
Lockdown release, love will have its day

I've heard of many negative effects of the policies enacted during the past year (i.e. seniors in car homes, children out of schools, businesses closed, etc.) but this is the first one I've heard about the impact on romantic relationships.

    Great work, Jon!

RhymeLovingWriter So many effects so much disrupted and limited but we have been boxed in our own worlds so harder to see the wider picture

"Romance cancelled" How tragic, I came back to reread this. Just fantastic. I needed a little inspiration and this one is the perfect one to give me sadness I can do something with. Thank you again for sharing your intelligent rhymes.

Also am I wrong in understanding that the pandemic may not really be to blame for this relationship? The pursued seems relieved to be in the distance, the poet longingly reassures himself that the only reason they cannot be together is because of the virus, but it will actually never blossom between the two? That feels more tragic to me

Catz not that deep really. It wasn't written about a partcular relationship. I have Parkinsons and I am single.Dating can take a lot of emotional resiliance because some people do not think I should even be dating. Last year when the pandemic began I was intending to try internet dating again. I didn't however because of the pandemic and that is where this came from. I saw it as a song but to keep it in a song format I wrote it slightly differently than I otherwise might have

Well it is well written regardless of my more somber read of it. Your writing could certainly swoon I don't always comment, but I have enjoyed reading your poetry. [Just an aside, I am an eHarmony statistic, married 4 years. Good luck on the search ! ]
