  • Holding Forth

    Moving forward
    holding the past
    in my heart
    and in my head
    the good
    the bad
    the indifferent
    all of it
    Knowing I can’t change
    any of it
    but not wanting to lose
    any of it
    Keeping it with me
    to remind me
    of the loves I’ve held
    the losses I’ve suffered
    the ordinary that was
    Taking comfort
    yes comfort
    from all I’ve done
    Using it
    as the base I’ve built
    from which
    to go up
    Knowing what was good
    and what was not
    and drawing from that
    the strength I’ll need
    to face what I
    don’t know is coming
    with memories
    to warm me
    when it’s cold
    and steel me
    when it’s hard
    Holding me together
    moving forward

Sounds as if you are resolutely prepared for tomorrow. A beautiful, somewhat stoic write. Thank you.

Thank you, RLW. It was a bit of a rough holiday this year. The ha’sonnets I had written earlier, so they stayed upbeat. We had a death in the family ten days before Christmas which put a damper on everything. Things still aren’t back to normal.

I'm so sorry. Death is difficult for we who still wait our turn to experience it. Know that I will pray for comfort for you, and your family, as you continue to put one foot ahead of the other and try to carry on.

Thank you. I know you’ve been through a lot of this the past few years.

    Should a year be set
    upon a rock of resolve
    how more sure
    it will dissolve
    to sand.

Thank you very much, The second! It was an emotional write. I’m glad it came out as enjoyable and not a downer.

I used to say: "I hope everything changes." Then I realized that there was only one way for everything to change — to change myself.

    Hello Muttado,
A powerful poem of holding on to strength, it can be difficult to muster at times especially in the worst of times. I hope you can soldier on, so, too, I wish for you, your sorrow to ease with lovely memories.
    All the very best, Tony.

RhymeZone Forums was extremely important to me. When I joined the site – in April 2016 – I was truly humbled that so much talent would accept a Simple Rhymer. However, a few months ago I decided to pull away due to – what I felt – was an abundance of SPAM postings and comments.

Recently, I was asked to become a Moderator to assist the other Moderators – and Administrators - in combating these SPAM postings and comments. It was my honor to enthusiastically accept.

I pledge to take the time to review the site daily (multiple times) and take appropriate action when necessary. I thank you for your contributions, and if you are considering withdrawing your talents – or have already done so – I sincerely hope you will reconsider.

My email address is [email protected] if you have any concerns regarding material posted to RhymeZone Forums.
