God-Wink, Anyone?
Now here’s a short story (you’ll like it, I think)
of something so clever it’s called a “God-Wink”.
A story of waking with chore list sized long,
but out-of-bed-feet landing bed-side-all-wrong.
A dream most unpleasant had shadowed the morn
where good heart and purpose were wont to be born.
To-do list safe-started with bedding in wash
with sleepy-sore thoughts lofted God-ward (to quash).
Continual praying with thanks to the fore,
helped set up the stage for what followed (I’m sure).
Cooked up special breakfast to nourish and please
the hearts of the ones whom this mood had un-eased.
More laundry loads fitted between was a plus
returning to “normal” the day gifted us.
Then clean-up of dishes (his turn since I cooked)
with fresh-laundered sheeting to bedroom I booked
to make up the bed (with some help since I asked,
for that is not one of my favorite tasks).
Bed-dressing went smoothly until the top sheet
showed section, unraveled (near one foot at least)!
This (not on the list of to-doing today)
begged prompt-ish attention to stay further fray.
Sat bed-side (while grumbling) with needle and thread
and asked God to turn it to blessing instead.
Could He make this holy, this wee, little blip
in road full of busy I’d planned at a clip?
It’s such a small thing, God, but all that I’ve got.
And in the next instant there came a great knot!
I laughed when I saw it - my prayer had been heard!
He’d answered with tangle (you’ll think me absurd).
But I knew He’d listened (and knowing me best,
gave just the right measure for holiness quest).
You see, it’s not size of the sacrifice willed,
but love as its base when we mark it fulfilled.
So pray inconvenience, a word to the wise,
and watch for the God-winks to bless with surprise!
