    Counterbalance

When only wondering presents as clue
for certainties unknown yet present felt,
should path of action be a tightened belt?
Or trust, on face, for stroking comforts’ due?

By trust I mean such willingness to view
at face, the hand that others, freely dealt
have seemed to ask for good. Or clever gelt?
Alas! An error here could run it through.

What then, if worldly measure urges yes,
while reins of reason tug you gently back
to place of holding steady status quo?
Could quick advance facilitate a mess
which heightened sense of caution saves? Alack!
The heart says yes, while brain is baying no.

About this poem (in case you wonder about such stuff):
The title/theme is from the word of the day for Sept. 18 (playing a little catch-up this morning) and written in a Petrarchan sonnet form (14 lines, iambic pentameter, ABBA, ABBA, CDECDE rhyme scheme).

A very interesting poem. We all weigh and tip the scales in judgement though the scales we use maybe weighted in favour of our own preferences.
I really like poems that make us think.
Very well done, it strikes a cord.

      John.
