  • A Modern Shame

    Abolition an ancient mission
    Unfettered by times brisk passage
A smug greed resides in our suburbs
    Parasitic puppet masters pull strings

Slavery a word that echoes of the past
Mankind’s harsh moments lurk within society
Abolished long ago but not abandoned
A cruelty that lives closer than we wish to know

Fast cars and smart phones, trappings of a master
Bought by the lives of those that they have ensnared
Chained by lies imprisoned without parole
Controlled, enrolled and taught how to fear

Hope starved, freedom beyond their horizon
    Isolated, aware retribution is relative
Possessed for profit, deceived by fake debt
    Trafficked forced into exploitation

    Slavery A modern shame
    Escaped victims released not free
    Haunted by fears hangers on
Peace of mind is not guaranteed

Parkinsonspoet - This was something I wrote a long ago yesterday
which seems somewhat in line with the relevant and
penetrating words you've shared today. Thanks Pp. Namyh

"When men breathe Gold and Silver
and inhale those smells of Power,
    the wind of Reason chokes
    and distils a poison sour.

    No longer are they Christian.
    They’ve forgotten friend and brother.
Now, Gold is God and rules the day
that enslaves one man to another"

You've done it again Jon, with your ability to put so much feeling into the phrasing. I wonder, will slavery every really be abolished this side of heaven?

We must always strive to end inhumanity and hope that if we still fall short we still at least get closer

The hypocrisy of man is something extraordinary and can be very deceptive. Nice work and well explained!

Well written and such phrases as "Fast cars and smart phones, trappings of a master" pretty well sums the modern fashion of slavery and slavery it is to another kinnd of master. But really the same ones in control
