    What Matters?

Some say the earth is six thousand years old.

Others count its age in the billions.

Who’s right? I don’t know, but the view that I hold

Is that, thousands or billions or trillions,

    Doesn’t matter.

    We’re here, aren’t we?

Did a cosmic big bang create the earth?

Was it fashioned in six days?

I maintain that whatever the source of its birth,

And whatever new theories may raise,

    Doesn’t matter.

    We’re here, aren’t we?

There are those who claim we evolved from green slime,

While others cite Adam and Eve.

Each claims the truth. The truth is that I’m

Certain which, if either, you believe

    Doesn’t matter.

    We’re here, aren’t we?

Philosophers question “Why are we here?”

What’s the meaning of life?” they ask.

    Socrates, Plato, even Shakespeare

    Sought answers. A futile task.

    Doesn’t matter.

    We’re here, aren’t we?

My question is why do we question

Those things that can’t be resolved?

So, if I may make a suggestion:

    Leave those mysteries unsolved.

    They don’t matter.

    We’re here, you and I.

    That’s what matters.

Hi, this was delightful, thought the light tone and the repetition made something for me that was really familiar. Makes me think how we sometimes miss the point, maybe even get lost. Not too deep take but a very solid message that carried! I have the belief that yes, mystery is that which was, and continues on mysteriously.
    Good post, thanks for sharing.

Man this reminds me of a poem I wrote. Not so directly related to why we are here, but why do we question the unquestionable. Those questions in which have no answer are just that, unanswerable. Very pleasurable poem to read. Applause to you JCrawf !
