    A Single Slushy Step

It’s not so far to get to town

if in your driveway mud won’t drown

    your aspirations to succeed.

For country living plants a seed

of sure resilience to press on

despite the times when mud has drawn

its line so deep (in dirt, not sand).

How to retain a ‘life is grand’

    and carefree attitude? Beats me.

But we will learn, with every tree

we fell, or every post hole dig,

to build a niche-fit farming gig.

And when we do, post mud and all?

Another verse will come to call

and play itself, in rhyming style,

upon the page, to prompt a smile.

Until that time we’ll trudge right through

with waders (up to hip should do).

(The picture in the previous poem, Muddy Me, was my sister's driveway.
This is mine, from melting snow last Saturday...and it's raining again now.)

    Chest waders might
    more fit the bill
    to ease into
    your life of toil

You may not be far wrong on that! (Sadly.) Hopefully things will take a turn for the better with spring on the doorstep.
