    • Nothing to see here
      Just a spiller of blather
      Quite common, really

    March Madnesses

    The King’s Gambit

    Though it deplored
    folklorey hype
    the lion roared
    and took a swipe
    Being all rough
    about its stuff
    Not blunt up front

    Final Brackets

    A tournament
    of hoops and balls
    as excitement
    fills college halls
    Cheerleaders dance
    and mascots prance
    Crown one champion

    Just Checking In

    Yet still they skate
    around the ice
    to orchestrate
    a shot precise
    Next month, playoffs
    dropped pucks, face-offs
    Slap shots in slots

    The Windblown Look

    They huffed and puffed
    and blew on through
    feeling all chuffed
    with what they do
    Bringing showers
    for the flowers
    So gust they must

    Diamonds Dust-Off

    With ball and glove
    bat and bases
    The fans glow love
    on upturned faces
    Spring training's here
    for them to cheer
    Play ball! the call

    A Fevered Pitch

    The whistle blows
    and matches start
    The action flows
    like a black art
    On snow or grass
    a perfect pass
    Extol's a goooooooooooooooal!

    Wooly Bully

    A bleating lamb
    meanders through
    Ends the program
    on a soft cue
    Thinks its the stuff
    with its wool fluff
    At peace with fleece

Thank you, Johntee, for the wonderful poetic response! In the US college basketball has its big tournament in March, nicknamed March Madness, and everything else somehow came from there.

That’s a lot going on Stephen.
I might add Mardi Gras and Fat Tuesday

Thank you, Bobby! March is a busy and mixed up month. As divot says, things come in and out. When I actually wrote this a couple years ago Mardi Gras was in February, so it was out.

March is such a fickle month, your in, your out, your all about, the only safe bet might be this poem.

Thank you, divot! Fickle is a good description for March. A little of every weather, a mixture of all the sports (the NFL joining the fray this year with the AAF!?! Really!?). It is all about.

    Ha'sonnet? He's on it!

    So madness reigns
    this month, you say,
    through varied strains
    of fancied fray?
    It's ringing true
    as writ by you.
    All set? You bet!

It's official. Unless the inventors, MHenry and grant hayes show up to give you some competition - you're the King of the ha'sonnet in the zone. I like the way you bookended this collection with the lion/lamb pieces.

Thank you, RLW, for your ha'sonneted response! I won't claim king, just a strong proponent of the form because I enjoy it. This one was written without the titles for each verse, but I felt they were needed when I posted it. Since March comes in like a lion and out like a lamb it seemed fitting, with the wind gust to shake up the middle.

    Dear Muttado1sb,

It is hard enough to write one decent ha'sonnet, but you have strung together seven marvelous ones telling a story and conveying your excitement! You are keeping the ha'sonnet flame alive singlehandedly! I am very impressed! And I agree with RhymeLovingWriter, you are the master, the King of the form. I bow. The form is too cramped for me! I need elbow room! And grant hayes, though he co-created the form, never really wanted to write ha'sonnets as he does not take a shine to rhyme.

    the young pullet
    strutting her stuff
    sports a mullet
    upon her fluff
    the rooster thinks
    he's in the pink
    and crows for show

    Best wishes,
    MHenry

P.S., I have some news, which I will post separately.

Thank you, MHenry! You’ve found a forte in haiku and tanka, which seem more cramped to me than the ha’sonnet. However you still do ha’sonnets well as in this comment! 🙂 Grant’s poetic leanings aren’t with rhyme (though he can when he wants), but I can’t seem to write ha’sonnets without it.

March Madness! Ah, very dear to my Heart. I pray that the Michigan Wolverines make it to the Final 4 again, and not lose in the final game like last year. College Basketball in the USA has an intensity unmatched in other sports.

Thank you, Tanner! In the USA the NCAA's March Madness rules. However, being a pre-Big Ten Penn State alum college, basketball never grabbed me. So that is why the other sports are in here. :-)
