    Ode to the Shovel

    In praise of shovels everywhere

as arms extend to push you there

into each snow-pile, deep and soft,

then raise to send your load aloft.

With heave and ho this tool we wield

to clear a path through frigid yield

    of mother nature’s winter spread

of whiteness, flaked, upon our head.

I’m glad for you. I tell it straight.

Though like the dentist, I could wait

to see you once again fair quick,

you lovely, ladled piece of stick.

I had the privilege of shoveling out about 30' of the driveway at the farm twice in six days - that's after last weekend's blizzard in NE. Can't say I'm not getting enough exercise these days. I had a video of the area but I think the file size is too large and I don't yet know how to decrease it. One day...

Thanks Rhymeboy. As tired as I am of using that shovel - I'd be lost without it these past few days!

These ordinary things make for great poems! Spoons, doorways, a shovel! I enjoyed this one a great deal.

I empathize Paula. As LG stated, you or I may have to write about hot showers and massages. I am sitting here nursing sore muscles after last night's 5 inch snowfall. At the expense of our sore, tired muscles, a fun poem.

I must be getting conditioned some then because this last time I was barely even sore!

Some whistle while they work others think up poetry. Hopefully you can retire your snow shovel soon and garb another for the garden or some other farming chore. As always an enjoyable read.

Thanks divot. Yes, I've learned there are shovels for all occasions and uses around here - and have handed off the wrong one when asked more than once - but I'm learning.

Thanks Alex. Kind of silly, but I was using what was at hand - literally!

Nice job Paula. I love my shovel. It is starting to crack though. While have to pick up a back up just in case.

A back-up shovel is always a good plan! Thanks for the read and comment.
