    Wistful Wonder

    snowed today...softly sideways

falling from within a season’s fare

I dared to think of you, remembering

how we would call each other

    sharing wonder at first winter-flakes

    within my ache I realized

though we’re apart in bodied way

our worlds still mold us heart to heart

and tears must speak of thankful joy

in memory of lighter, brighter days

    when new-born taste of winter’s

sting would draw us up to smiles

    of possibility; counting

    old-folks predilection, readying

    our larders for the freeze

    your easy laugh could calm

    my darkest fear and though

we rest in peace or pain, it’s

all been gain to be your daughter,

    spying snowflakes,

    washing me anew

Thank you Jon - inspired by a beautiful woman - and our mutual wonder at the first snow of winter (fall).

Hello RhymeLovingWriter, There is a lovely mellowness to this poem as you wistfully wonder mid the falling flakes of memories. She must have been a very special lady. May she rest in peace and may you wonder on. A very lovely poem, I must say. Fond regards, Tony.

Yes, the snow left nearly as quickly as it arrived. The memory however - I have that forever - and imagine the feeling will be resurfaced each year when the first flakes fly.

To be remembered thus by a child is the seal of parenthood done right.

This, you composed well. I liked the mood of it, and observe how the pathos was there just beneath the surface... It's the subtlety that worked well, imo, in conveying a sense of who you are (this is assuming it's autobiographical)... and so the feeling while not over the top, is palpable, and transmits. It's beautiful because it's not bitter, it's delicate and moving. Thanks for sharing. Good memories, I've been dreaming snow lately myself!

Yes, this one is autobiographical. Thank you for the kind and encouraging comments! We're back up in the mid-60F/15C's again, typical fall weather for where I live. Hope you dreams of snow come true if they were pleasant ones.
