    Trade Route-Trade Rout

    Now only wind borne

    ghosts might sigh

    and pour the sand

    from hand to hand

    for the wealth

    of the Nabataean.

So it is that Empires die

    and under the sun

    their bleached bones lie,

no silks, no scents, no memory

    of far-off Imperial Cathay.

    For they had drunk

    the well-spring dry,

    leeched trade's

    Caravanserai

    and supped till

    desolation fell

    on the pillared

    halls of Petra.

This is a beautiful treatment of a desolate reality.

How will Trump's Trade War work out?

      "A rose red city
      half as old as time"
      caught not by trade war
but a shift of trade route.

      That focus came late
and grew from just the seed of
of a phrase that came to mind
"they had drunk the well-spring dry"
