  • BEWITCHING SLEEP (For Tanner)

    I wrestled with the question

    Should I fake sleep

Or catch her in the act

The feverish rubbing of the sheets

    Between her legs

    Who was she fantasizing about?

    While she buckled in climax

    Gingerly, I stretched my arm

Across the vastness of our bed

And plopped my hand into her crotch

    The fake-yawn-stretch

    “You, okay?”

A grunt and a hasty exit to the bathroom

It was doubt that I wish plagued me

Because the arrogance of her anger was doing me in.

OMG, You delve deep into the existential realities of sentient creatures. I can only think of Hermann Hesse’s famous words from Steppenwolf: “The way to innocence, to the uncreated and to God leads on, not back, not back to the wolf or the child, but ever further into sin, ever deeper into human life”.
