    Persistence paid
    its dividend
    when out you played
    this rhyming trend.
    No metaphor -
    please send us more.
    Play ball -ya'all.

Well done! I think this is more of a home run than a strikeout, Johntee!

Sorry about that By the time I found there was a second
page I'd entered it twice and can't get rid of the spare copy.

    Home Run (after MHenry's advise)

    Strike One

    I see the task
    now laid out plain
    but can I ask
    a rhyme, that fain
    would fall outside
    the plan, to slide
    in place, third base.

    Strike Two

    For a sennight
    I've been on it.
    A running fight,
    beastly sonnet,
    thrust and parry
    only carry
    half way today.

    Strike Three

    Strike three, third crime
    recidivists
    Folsom life term.
    Ghost among ghosts,
    rhythm on track
    The Man in Black.
    Dream time paradigm.

    It seems to me
    I have a chance

    I have to say
    it makes good sense
    to find a way
    without pretense.
    A bond that's made
    on trust won't fade.
    Win/win begins.

    With Empty Glass

    Look in their eyes -
    up here, not there! -
    and they’ll surmise
    how much you care
    Show some respect
    if you expect
    to chance romance

    The trick’s to find
    someone with shared
    interests - mind,
    while UNimpaired! -
    Then smile and talk,
    take a short walk,
    and earn your turn

    if you can snag
    a courtly lass
    with just a bag
    and empty glass
    give a lesson
    or suggestion
    love school! how cool!
