    Health and Safety
    back then?
    No Way!
    Men were men,
    showed no fear.
    Stifled cry.
Stop that at once "boy on fire!"

Cleverly turned out Parkinsonspoet! I feel the tension build, but most of all I like that punn-y ending. Is this first person? Glad you survived, if so.

This made me smile as it brought back memories of trying to blow up (not purposely) the middle school chemistry class. Nice, Parkinsonspoet!

    started a topic Arm Alight

    Arm Alight

    Voice of authority

    Relays the instructions

    To the young scientists

    Orders experiment

A class of Dad's white shirts

    Cast off make shift labcoats

    Turn on the bunsons flame

    Burners light up the room

    Following procedure

    Analytic actions

Grind to halt as all stare

    Teacher strides towards me

    And then I see

    Flames flicker

    Arm alight

    Manic

    Panic

    Flap

    Fire!

    Schoolmaster

    Calm Careful

    Sleeve smothered

    Safety secured

    Shamed and embarrassed

    Always remembered

    Boy who didn't smoke

    Yet lit up in class
