  • Mud

After the rain in the mud I could slip

Wore my white trainers with good grip

    Swerved and sidestepped the puddles

    Slipping and sliding balance befuddled

Along the path with legs far apart

Around the mud edge driest part

Slippery though and did the splits

If I fell would be ass over tits

Came to where the mud is too wide

Trainers sink in and mud inside

Shifted more mud than the escape committee

Tunnelling at Colditz just to be free

Walked on the edge of the river bank

Grip foreclosed its loan I had to thank

For not toppling in the muddy river

So cold that I would surely shiver

Arrived home with feet cold and wet

How can they have also sweat

    Filling up the washing machine

Remind trainers of white when clean

This is quite a different take than the idyllic scene you set in the last poem Jon - sounds almost frightening - and definitely frustrating. Two sides of the same coin? So glad you didn't land in the water!
