    TRAGIC

    I don't think ----- there ever was
or if ----- there will ever be
    anything ----- quite as tragic
as your average ------ Christmas Tree

If you go out to a farm
    where Christmas Trees are grown
you'll see ------- the tiny seeds
and see how ------ the seeds are sown

You'lll see lots ------ of baby trees
planted neatly ------- in ev'ry row
And you'll see ------ how much tender care
they receive there ------ just to grow

And when they reach ----- the proper age
and achieve ------ the proper height
they are cut down ------ in their prime
    one cold ------- December night

And after ------- the trees are cut
they are wrapped up ----- like a bale
then shipped off ------ to the market
where they are offered fresh ----- for sale

Some trees ------- will lose their branches
And you can watch them ------ as they weave
    the branches ----- into wreaths
that will be sold ------- by Christmas Eve

Yes, some trees ------ will be destroyed
just to make ------ a single wreath
The lucky ones ------ have decorations
and have presents ------- piled underneath

And when Christmas ----- is finally over
A tree that was grown ------ with love and care
is stripped of its lights ------- and ornaments
and will lie ------ completely bare

This tragic scene ------ will often happen
about two weeks ------ from Christmas Day
The poor tree ----- is dragged outside
and is suddenly ------ thrown away

    No . . . I don't think ----- there ever was
or if ----- there will ever be
    anything ----- quite as tragic
as a beautiful ------ Christmas Tree

I do not think I shall ever look at a Christmas tree the same way again!

You actually made me feel compassion for it!

Beyond the poetic artistry, and creativity of this piece, the literal meaning, the metaphor is a profound one.

How many things begin with pomp and circumstance, only to be abruptly discarded?

Inspires me to be more thoughtful about the things I value, and ought to appreciate!

Thanks DWAYNE . . . a lot of people told me the same thing when I performed this piece at an open mike in Cali!
