    In a second

Birds chirping happily through this false peace

Stagnant air envelopes the sunlit day

Their dark black uniforms without a crease

Boot clicking sound closer to where we stay

afraid our breathing is heard by the police

We close our eyes and in dark silence pray

Hello AlexandratheLate, An Orwellian cloud hangs dark over this one. Foreboding, haunting and daunting poetry at its best. Fond regards, Tony.

I got what Paula got. I was thinking Holocaust. Hopefully history will never repeat itself!

This is especially poignant in modern day America.

I see this poem starting of to be something beautiful. Towards the very end it goes into a prologue of something haunting. I guess you have to only imagine the rest. Anyways a good short poem.

Sad how this can apply to so many periods of history, including present day. It brought Central/South American actions to my mind. Well done with the vivid imagery in this short poem AtL!

that sounds really good although it is sad, especially because it applies current day, the most. at least that's my opinion. whatever the case, good stuff out there!
