  • Sarah's Days

    Sweet, sweet summer rain,
    swallows whisperin’ secrets on the clothesline.
    Dogs are lazy;
    hear that whistle blowin’ down the railroad line.
    Sarah takes it easy,
    in slumber in the bouquet of her Chianti wine.
    The lands ablaze, summer days,
    no such thing as time.

    Abandoned clouds idly drift
    across the deep blue sky.
    Remnants of some foreign storm,
    worn and weak they came over here to sigh.
    Their shadows ramblin’ across the valley,
    soon the sun will kiss ’em dry.
    The lands ablaze, summer days,
    catch the colours of the dragonfly.

    No sloops are sailin’, their sailors sleepin’
    on the banks of the lagoon.
    Eyes are heavy, minds at ease
    in the peace of the delirium.
    Sands are burnin’, the nets are dry:
    hope a breeze will speak up soon.
    The lands ablaze, summer days,
    changin’ tides for the afternoon.

    A wonderin’ mind takes me through
    the mysteries of the fallin’ haze.
    Where the air is cool and the fruit is sweet,
    in the evenin’, the music plays.
    Sarah’s soft caresses
    ‘neath the shafts of the southern rays.
    The lands ablaze, summer days:
    ‘I love you,’ I swear to God that’s what she says.

    Her hair is wild, her skin is dark,
    her eyes as moist as the river’s mist.
    Her breath is warm, her touch is true:
    there’s affection in her every kiss.
    Her every move, a ballade of love,
    her every word spoken in bliss.
    Of Sarah’s ways, such precious days;
    alone is me in reminisce.

    What lovely words to warm a bleak, cloudy afternoon near sundown at my house. If based on reality, you are a lucky man to have such memories. Thank you for sharing Tony!

    Lovely, lovely. Rhythm and choice of words as usual, carry me along, pulling on my heartstrings at the end. You began by describing the world, and ended with that beauty -- a still contemplation. ... to wonder what it meant.

    thankya for sharing with us!

    They wish for it to be true.
    It is saved for me to be
    jealous of your ecstasies;
    times past remembrance
    finds an end dressed
    not in rosemary
    but in rue.

      Hello Johntee, But in rue and regret, such is life, tripping over memories as we hobble on. Thank you very much for your fine response. Fond regards, Tony.

      Once again you paint a mysterious picture in beautiful, vivid colors. A love lived or a love drempt of?

      Memories of love, of a person, place and time, shown so well the picture is clear, the sadness mixed with joy felt. Another lovely poem, lovely story, Tony.
