Cheetah and Gazelle (from trail for BBC “Big Cats”)

    Cheetah and Gazelle,

    here beauty chases beauty,

    cruel beauty, lithe in stride,

is pitted against spring and turn.

    Congruent evolution,

    agility matched to muscle burn,

    last second life decided,

    death denied by overrun.

Lovely Johntee - to capture the moment(s) you viewed in eloquent style. Harsh life truths, yet captured with beauty intact.

It came from a "trail" that told more than the programme,
that neither animal is going flat out since the average hunt speed is
30-40mph whereas the cheetah's top speed is in the sixties, and the gazelle
relies on a sideways jink at the last moment so the pursuer overshoots
and gives up. Only one in six hunts results in a kill which of course
takes out the old and sick preferentially.

Preferentially for whom? ;-) Nicely portrayed, Johntee!
