    started a topic Once

    Once

We pass through this world but once.
    Stephen Jay Gould

If I could touch your skin
    Just once again
Those precious memories torn apart and frayed

    Like scraps of tattered parchment
    On which our love
Was carefully copied down in cursive script

    Now randomly zig-zag in brief
    Eddies of wind
To lay finally scattered on bare ground

    Time wanders like a vagabond
    In my dreams
Seeking alms for his unseemly deeds

Alan650, Welcome to the RZ! Many thanks for your visit and comments. Much appreciated!

DWAYNE and mooneyblack, I think you both know that I hold you in high esteem, as RZ friends and highly talented poets. You and a few others are the reason I keep writing even when feeling uncreative and in the doldrums. You often uplift my spirit!

Tanner I love how you have used torn parchment to represent the memories, the wind scattering them and time as a vagabond wandering. To me, it's is as if the memories are thrown up by a gust of time as we become more reflective with age. Does it for me, thank you and for the lesson too.

    My favorite part:

    Time wanders like a vagabond
    In my dreams
Seeking alms for his unseemly deeds

    I enjoyed this poem!

Once again, your eloquence encapsulates emotion!

The last stanza is an agonizing gem.
