  • In your absence

This is for a dear friend of mine who lost her husband recently. She was married 30 years.

    In your absence

In your absence I’ve learned to sleep alone
Invent new ways to keep warm through the night
Like a ghost i haunt the rooms in our home
Getting out of bed is another fight

Without you life is simply not the same
I can still smell your lingering cologne
My purpose is like a flickering flame
The loss i feel is clear down to the bone

I’ve been told the deep pain lessens with time
But romantic movies still make me cry
We were married what now seems a lifetime
I always thought I’d be the first to die

Now i try to live one day at a time
Life’s peaks and valleys I’m learning to climb

I see so many people's journey reflected in this. Well captured, Alex.
