  • What am I Worth?

I view Me a Common Schmuck,
just Like same and With some Luck,
I ground Out a Common Wage,
    Retirement is Now my Stage.

Did the Things was Supposed to Do,
saved some Bucks – Insurance Too.
My family Would not go Broke,
if One day I up and Croak.

Now the Income’s kind of Light,
    Reality’s become my Blight.
    as I struggle to Survive,
my Worth’s more Dead than is Alive.

    What dollars
    and cents can't achieve
    is what the family gets
    from you being alive

Hello Bob, Like myself, in penury, nearly, but we must smile on. Another rhyme of great worth from your vault of gems. You never fail to entertain, so, too, rhyme the realities of life in your own unique and poetic language. Very well done indeed. Fond regards, Tony.

            BEYOND THE LEDGER

            The value of a man,
            transcends the black and red,
of what the final ledger said.

            For no actuary may quantify,
            the days preceding
            whenst we die.

            And smiles, thy reminiscence leave,
            when to memories beloved cleave.

Oh, when a life bequeaths such pleasure
it is precious beyond the ledger.

                Not better, just different.

You have such an engaging colloquial style
that is so befitting of your subject matter, and I surmise your personality.

I imagine your family finds that even more engaging in person, than we do, as readers.

Keep writing, and we'll keep reading!

                Merry Christmas, poet.

Thank you. I don't know what to call it - just kind of tumbles out of my old brain. Actually, not a person knows that I am on this site - family, acquaintances, or friends. It's beyond a true honor that people actually read my rhymes here.
