  • Solitary Night Travel by Train

    I lay back against
Coach seat – abandon troubled mind
A few people up ahead asleep
    Silence adorns the car

    Shadows of bleak terrain
Structures blur by the window pane
    Clickety-clack and chuga chuga
    Rhythmic jar as lullaby

    I feel forlorn swallowed
By unending night - ignorant of what
We purchase here I fear the
    Dark apart from you

Your words here paint not only picture but also emotion quite well Tanner. I could feel the motion, and the bereft heart of the lonely passenger.

      I agree with RLW.

The desolation and despair articulated here, the solitary train is emphatic imagery, punctuating the loneliness.

      Exceptional.

        A train out of time,
        a memorial attraction
        now Amtrak holds the line
        against final extinction

Good ending, really worked well for me. Nice calm summation to a brief poem. Almost seems like it belongs to a series.
