You see what you think is a child
walking down the street, not necessarily toward you,
with a large rainbow lollipop in hand
mouth open singing some light blue song
about an egg she found on the ground
it was speckled with what looked like rust
and a dead bird was inside staring at us.
only I saw its deadness; I was curious.
before profit and bartering of emotion
there is this: the child's next smile down
by the sunny musical railroad tracks
    endlessly humming from another world
the sky the color of a broken egg

This is so different amenOra and reminded me of a movie where the child is blind and takes care of a bird he thinks is alive. This had a hitchkock feel to it where it’s calm with something else underlying. Great job!!

Thanks, everyone. This piece is special for me in how it came about. it's slightly autobiographical. Except the girl is me as a child. Her singing and ... the announcement of the sole "i" happened spontaneously, and I wasn't sure if I should remove the "I"ness and just make it the little girl experiencing it. However! I enjoy how it turned out, kinda like I ... is the older self looking back.

"Poetic license" I use quite often, but don't usually aim to "deceive". So the railroad tracks were also, poetic license. The bird egg I saw WAS blue, it was beautiful, and yet it was just an egg. At my old house far from railroad tracks; on someone's driveway. No real bird to "seem" like it's watching me. Just that haunting, beautifu blue egg.

What you conjured from that egg is lovely.

The song, the sky, the egg - all of a wonder. Lovely.
