    Comic Book, Aped Crusader

    The shadow steals life from light;

    each move the lit makes, it apes;

    squeezed and stretched, bent, crushed,

    shaped by walls it leaps at single bound

    of doppelgänger haunted night, Nosferatu

    and his inseparable fellow, fear

    still pervade the darkened hour.

    In given his proclivity to sleep
    all live long day when sun is shining bright
    perhaps we could avoid as well the haunt
    so welcomed by this creature of the night.
    By lamplight only might this scene unfold,
    (unless there's wiring for electric light)
    Of Nosferatu I had never heard
    And hope I never see - I'd die of fright!

    PS. I liked the phrasing and tone of the poem even before I looked up 'Nosferatu' - being unfamiliar with languages puts one at a disadvantage among the fine poets in the zone.

      Just as educated by TV
      When Murnau made the film,
      the name Drakula was copyright.
      I altered takes to steals
      as more silently suitable.
