    BLOOD ON BLACKTOP

    The lion that I was
The lone wolf that I am now
Slink the paths of my quarry
    And my killers
    Highways sever our direction
    Weeding out the non-observing
I can still smell their fear
But now I can smell mine
    Pawing at loves sashes
    Stones in my hands
    Crunch of painted metal
My blood the color of blacktop
    I once roared
    Now I only howl

Oh, how the mighty are fallen. The predator becomes the prey, These are the themes this verse brings to my mind.

    enjoyed reading several times

I dunno, the second, a lone wolf is still pretty impressive. As an inch-long fish in a bowl, my best effort is the pop of a pinhead bubble I've blown to the meniscus.

Thank you Grant first for all the likes second all the comments, always encouraging you and a bunch of others here are like teachers I never listened to in school in my youth.Ya but the lone wolfs chances to survive a long life are greatly diminished without the pack. I got hit by a truck at 28 years of age lets just say the effects are headed to a pitch mentally and physically Things are choppy I will finish later ThankYou

The imagery is very compelling in this, the second! From the lion, king of everything, to a wary lone wolf. Carefree to careful via quick interruption. Pride goeth after a fall (sorry for the pun). Life changes whether you want it to or not, so you have to adjust to survive. Well done!
