    Scattered ash

    Scattered ash

    doesn't finish

    the conversation.

    While chaliced

    memory remains,

    the ape within repines

    grief's ragged edge.

    Unspoken word,

    internal voice,

    some little consolation.

I love the the perspective of this piece, Johntee, particularly the juxtaposed chalice and ape - very insightful.

The conversation now truly begins, all consolation cast aside.

      You recognise,perhaps, my steal
      of chalice from your commonwealth
      of words.

Well said Johntee, might I respond with a most poignant verse from my favorite poem sung at the 911 memorial.

I have read a fiery gospel writ in burnish rows of steel

As ye deal with my condemners, so with you my grace shall deal

Let the Heroes, born of woman, crush the serpent with his heal

    His truth is marching on

    “Juliet Ward”

I take it the tune must be "John Brown's Body?"

    Great imagery.

Concise, impactful illustration of the moral frailties of humanity!
