  • Candied Rind

    Hollow chambers echo
    caverns of turpitude.
    Illusory promises.
    The disaffected?
    subdued.

    Obviscated twist,
    Orchestrated grist,
    hedonistic tryst.

    If you thirst,
    imbibe hope.
    If you hunger,
    feast on faith.

    The meagre
    dwindle since forsaken.
    Their condition?
    Misanthropic,
    if not mistaken.

    The barefooted,
    urged
    to draw on
    vacant straps,
    find satiety
    from scraps.

    Snake-oiled dreams
    to lubricate expectations.
    Embellished,
    intoxicated,
    exasperation.

    But
    look past
    each clever shill
    and you'll soon find,
    some rotten apple,
    pitching
    candied rind!

Another deep write from the knight in shining armour, who wields Truth as his sword. Your word choice, as always, is outstanding, and each one delivers a punch. Top of the queue!

Great job. You used some of my favorite words. And I have hundreds

            snake oiled dreams.
They say snakes are "slimey"; no, honey, that is the worm which is slimey, more or less.

I marvel at the sophistication of your diction and your Original Voice.
            Thank you, DWAYNE!

Hello Dwayne, Once again a poem tells of truth and how exquisitely you tell it. There is always a profound intensity to your poetry, this splendid verse being no exception. Daggers in men smiles indeed. Another truly great poem from your grand bureau. Regards, Tony.

Thanks for the kind words, everybody.

I really wonder, what our democracy, our society, is coming to!

Lean and mean! Dwayne, you are the Moral Compass of the Zone and pass prophetic judgement on the society in which we dwell. Your economy of language is beautiful as I have said many times before. I hope your health improves.
