  • An Ode to William Shakespeare

    The greatest poet ever lived,
    The writer of the stage
    Shakespeare, O’ the glorious bard,
    Unrival’d in our age

What strings of words and witty sayings
    Sprang forth from his pen
Such worlds of lore he wrought in ink
    Naught was beyond his ken

Alas, the wordsmith turn’d to dust
Yet, his words still remain –
No time can mar their living speech
    Nor bid cease their refrain

And if you wish to see him, then
    Within these pages look
For ever shall the Master lie
    Immortl’d in this book

    Note:
Just this last week, I was visiting England and had the opportunity to visit Shakespeare's birthplace and grave in Stratford-upon-Avon. I was inspired to write this little poem, as if at the beginning of a collection of his works. .Any suggestions for improvement/critiques are very welcome!

Thanks! I've only seen one of his plays (Othello) and it was in Slovak. But I have read all of them and love them!

Hello N.Y. Sonnet, A darling of a poesy. A lovely, light and delightful celebration of the bard of bards. Should be rendered forth with lively enthusiasm and flattered with music. Very well done indeed. Regards, Tony.

Thank you so much for your gracious comments! I hadn't thought of setting it to music, but that's a great idea!
