  • Precarious Inspiration

    Lightning strikes.
    Brings me to my knees.
    As I fall I write.
    I have only a moment
    to record the flash.
    Then the light is gone.
    I lay prostrate, face down
    in misremembered dust,
    praying for lightening
    to strike twice.
    Only the echo of thunder,
the faded song, a moment of light.

Thank you, Tanner. I hope I captured the fleeting experience of sudden inspiration. Sometimes I can be driving down the street and a verse comes to me. I pull off the road to record and before I can stop the car the perfection is gone. I am left with just the echo of inspiration.

      Thanks Tanner

How terrifyingly lovely! I've seen the destruction lightning can cause - but you have captured a positive here. Splendid!

rhymetime, I used to write down phrases while driving - scraps of paper on the steering wheel - a very unsafe practice to record inspired ideas or phrases. My justification was of course if I don't get it down it will be lost. Here is one such short poem composed at the wheel, many many years ago!

      Song

Sing to me of dark novelties and of
      The genius of the spine.
