  • Fire and Night

Against the blackness which precludes sight,
Defense to the far-off stars and sky
The Fire, flickering, displays his might,
His light staving off the night close by

Stand resolute! The Oaken Logs cry
Sending out Sparks in futile platoons
Forward; into the Night! the Sparks reply
Quickly consumed under the crescent moon

Be not afraid! The tall Flames roar
Our stance shall never fade nor waver
Against Night they wage their war
Armed with radiance they give no favor

So Fire invades the damp and dark of Night
    Always unquenchable, eternally bright.

Hello James! Welcome to the Rhymezone! I see you've got some rhyming going on here that paints a vivid picture. It looks to be a sonnet style - you'll find lots of company with the poets here who like sonnets as well. In fact, you'll find all kinds of forms and free verse to keep you inspired!

Thank you! I do enjoy sonnets and I very much find my place in poetry centered on nature!

Thank you! I think "Charge of the Light Brigade" inspired this for me.
