    Leave the light on

I may be late so leave the light on for me
Even if I get lost, I will come around
Tossed by life's turbulent waves of the deep sea
I heard you call me but could not make a sound

I wandered but quite sure of my own way home
Fearless and young, I knew how to be quite strong
    Determined and self-assured aimlessly roamed
The years taught me clearly how I could be wrong

I was late but you never gave up on me
Hopeful hands tirelessly held out with love
You left the light on so I could clearly see
This fledgling had turned into a mourning dove

Maturity comes to one who's teachable
    Humility makes wisdom obtainable

AlexandratheLate your first line is powerful! The entire piece can only be written from a poet that has lived and learned the lessons of this life and has a way with metaphor and rhythm and deep sensitivity. Love this one.

Beautiful! So many souls have found the way home because someone was patient enough to wait for them in hope. You've written that truth beautifully!

Alexandra, I can imagine this edifying many people. It is a personal journey that you've made universal in its appeal. The long, measured step of the lines suits a meditative reading, and the insights are imbued with a lucid grace.
